Duty of Foresight: Creating a Strategic Board
As you and your board adjust to the new times:
-
- How can we develop a strategic board that can guide our direction over the next decade?
- What is a Board Competency Matrix and how do we use it?
- Is our Board ready to deliver on the 4th D?
As nonprofit organizations become more complex and diverse, they will require boards of directors with a wide range of knowledge, skills and attributes to address the needs and challenges of the environment. One growing trend is to move away from a constituency-based board to develop a governance model based on a more competency-based process to recruit and develop agile directors.
Along with directors committing to deliver on the three “Ds”: Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty and Duty of Obedience discover the 4th D, Duty of Foresight, it’s important to assess whether you have the “right people on the bus” to help your organization navigate its future.
