Special Guest Speakers
Recently, my video blog post “Are You a Wavemaker?” provoked increased discussions about organizations that are stepping up to address pressing community issues.
I have invited John and Scott as my special guest speakers to discuss the initiatives created by their Chambers, why they decided to take action, collaborators and stakeholders, as well as funding and challenges along the way.
John L. Tayer, President and CEO at the Boulder Chamber
John is honored to lead the organization that serves as Boulder’s unified voice for business interests, advances the community’s economic vitality, and provides valuable business support services.
Prior to joining the Boulder Chamber, John was Public Affairs and Communications Director for the pharmaceutical manufacturing company, Roche Colorado Corporation, and Policy Development Director in the Boulder City Manager’s Office. John also spent six years as the Boulder area’s elected representative to the Regional Transportation District.
A native of Brookline, Massachusetts, John earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, spent a couple of years working on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and moved to Boulder 28 years ago to earn a law degree from the University of Colorado. He now resides in South Boulder with his wife, Molly, and enjoys playing in the outdoors, accessing local cultural attractions, and generally loves his community.
Scott Hall, SVP for Civic and Community Initiatives at the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce
Scott oversees the KC Chamber’s work on its “Big 5” initiatives – five things to make Greater Kansas City the best place to live, work, start a business and grow a business. For his work at the KC Chamber, Scott has been recognized as a “Rising Star” and one of the “100 People Making Kansas City a Better Place” by KC Magazine.
Prior to joining the KC Chamber, Scott was an attorney at the law firm of Lewis, Rice & Fingersh L.C. His practice area was commercial real estate with a special emphasis on economic development. In this capacity, he was named a Super Lawyers “Rising Star” in 2013.
A Kansas City area native, Scott received his BA from Washington University in St. Louis and his JD and MBA from the University of Kansas. He and his wife Suzy have four children - John, Katie, Mary Jane and Christopher.
